Keep your smile shining this Valentine's season by showing some extra TLC towards your teeth. After all, the best gift you can give your valentine is a bright, vibrant smile. Here are six simple tips on how to keep your teeth smiling this Valentine's Day: Kiss More: Here's a fun valentine fact: kissing helps prevent cavities! When you kiss someone it stimulates saliva in your mouth which breaks down plaque and washes bacteria away. Stop the Sugar: Each year, people spend more than $1.6 billion dollars on sweets and more than 58 million pounds of candy and chocolate are consumed around Valentine's Day. Sugar reeks havoc on your teeth and can ultimately leads to cavities. Enjoy sugar-free valentines treats like almonds, baked goods or sugar free candy instead. Replace Your Brush: To be most effective, your toothbrush should be replaced every 3-4 months and if you're sick with a cold replace it sooner. When the bristles of your toothbrush are frayed they won't clean as effectively. Young children are often harder on their toothbrushes so theirs should be replaced every 2-3 months. Wash Down With Water: Even if you can't brush after every meal, simply drinking water is a simple way to care for your teeth. Water washes away the bacteria in your mouth and around your teeth. Plus water reduces dry mouth and helps reduce bad breath. Nuf' said! Floss More: Flossing your teeth is just as important as brushing your teeth because it removes the food particles and bacteria that collect around the teeth.
