Between vacations, summer camps, slumber parties and backyard BBQs, it's easy for your family to get out of your take a bite out of summernormal routine. While summers are meant to be unscheduled, don't get so busy that you neglect your health. These three simple habits will help you and your family enjoy summer to its fullest! Brush & Floss Daily: Your family may have a more flexible schedule during summer, but it's important to stick with the routine of daily brushing and flossing. Instead of telling them a specific time they have to brush their teeth, include it in a list of tasks that must be completed before they play or go to bed so it becomes a habit that is part of their daily routine. You can also make your kids a part of the process by having them select a new toothbrush in their favorite color or showcases their favorite character. Limit Your Sweet Treats: Sweet treats like popcorn, lemonade, cotton candy, S'Mores, and popsicles are summer favorites that kids enjoy all summer. Many of these foods are high in sugar which can lead to an increased number of cavities. While it's okay to allow your kids enjoy the occasional treat, make sure to limit the number of snacks before bed time so sugar doesn't sit on your teeth over night. Drink Water, Lots Of It: Water is the best beverage for your body. Not only will water help you stay hydrated, drinking water helps your system distributes nutrients throughout your body, rinses food away from your teeth and gives your body a healthy glow. Whenever possible drink water infused with fluoride which will strengthen the enamel around your teeth and help prevent cavities. We hope you are enjoying a relaxing summer vacation and look forward to seeing you in our office soon!
